Qatar leads the region in labour rights
This is the title of the “Labour factsheet” of the Qatar Communications Office, the Qatar government communication agency, sent on March 3 by the Mission of the State of Qatar to the European Union, with several important reforms: - a minimum wage of 1,000 QAR per month (270 $) for all employees, including domestic workers, effective March 2021 - the removal of No-Objection Certificates allowing employees in Qatar to terminate their contract (September 2020) - full removal of exit permits for expatriates (2018, completed 2020) - preventing passport confiscation (under kafala) - restriction on summer working hours between 15th June and August - accessible healthcare, regular COVID testing (free for all residents), high-quality free medical...
