How have markets been performing?
European stock markets have continued their upward trend with the Stoxx index delivering another positive monthly return in May up 2.6% in total with the index up 6.8% for the year to end May. This belies much weaker performance in the real economy with the European Central Bank (ECB) now committing to further loose monetary policy in efforts to push back deflation, encourage lending and revive growth.
What about the UK in particular?
The FTSE All Share delivered another positive monthly return, up 1.4% in May with Mid Caps outperforming the broader market up 1.5%...
