Luxembourg’s effective withdrawal from the ECT: What is the impact on investors?
By Annie ELFASSI, Partner Johann BENSIMON, Associate, Baker McKenzie Luxembourg   As of June 17, 2024, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has officially withdrawn from the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT).(1) The ECT came into force in Luxembourg on April 16, 1998.(2) This treaty aims to promote international investment in the energy sector and provides protection to foreign investors against government interference.
