There are three types of democracy: representative democracy, direct democracy and deliberative democracy. Each type has a different format: elections for representative democracy, referendum (votations) for direct democracy and sortitions i.e. selections by the random casting or drawing of lots for deliberative democracy. Each type has advantages and disadvantages.
Therefore, the challenge is to find smart ways to combine the strength of each of them and to eliminate the weaknesses. So, it is not just replacing one model by another.
