Key implications of Solvency II on real estate holdings in investment portfolios
By David Skinner, Aviva Investors Investment Strategy and Research Director Real Estate Solvency II, or SII as it is commonly known, aims to provide a legal framework for managing the risks and solvency position for all insurers across the European Union. Due to come into place in January 2013, the framework encourages better governance and risk management by requiring insurers to hold sufficient capital to support the business they write, in order to meet their commitments to policyholders.
