For the past four years, the best-selling sector for retail investors has been global equity funds. It is easy to see why. A well-managed global portfolio should give you a good geographic spread. It can be actively managed, so you need not worry about how much and when to invest in the US, Europe or beyond. And it can offer you access to markets, like Japan, where it can be difficult to buy stocks individually. Many investors will hold more than one of these funds, but are they the right ones?
