Recently, the President has declared tourism a strategic area for the socio-economic development of the country. There has been an enormous development in tourism industry. In the first 9 months of 2018, the number of foreign visitors doubled to 4.4 million people compared to 2.2 million in the same period of 2017.
The goal remains to pass the 5 million figure. The ambition of the country goes way beyond. Uzbekistan plans to bring the number of foreign tourists visiting the country to 9.09 million by 2026, according to a presidential decree.
