The Luxembourg data protection authority (Commission Nationale pour la protection des données or CNPD) has issued its 20th annual report, marking 20 years as Luxembourg's data protection watchdog. The role of the CNPD has certainly changed since 2018 with the adoption of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Nevertheless, it is the pandemic and the development of new technologies that have impacted the authority the most in the last few years and will continue to do so. In 2022, 18% of data violation notifications were caused by acts of hacking compared with 17% in 2021, a number that has been steadily rising since 2018....
