The complexities surrounding ESG data continue to present significant challenges for investors, financial institutions and other stakeholders. Complexities when dealing with ESG rating data encompass among others different data quality challenges due to lack of harmonization in data taxonomies; the exact coverage and its subsequent impact on decision making and ad-hoc reporting; the (un)ease of connectivity/integration with existing technology and in-house frameworks by the user; the possible lack of transparency on methodologies used and often the lack of independent assurance of the ESG data provided.
