On the 29 of January, the new European Commission adopted the 2020 Work Programme, which highlights the Commission’s priorities and objectives for this year. In contrast to the Juncker Commission, the von der Leyen Commission is operating in a post-Brexit context, the economic crisis is no longer at the fore of the European agenda, and this new Commission is self-described as ‘geopolitical’, rather than merely political. Similar to its predecessor, the von der Leyen Commission places emphasis on digital transformation and the fight against climate change.
