2017 was the year of the meteoric rise of ICOs (Initial Coin Offerings). The dawn of decentralized fundraising. The dusk of traditional Venture Capital.
885 projects raised throughout the year nearly USD 6b(1) and the number of projects grew month by month at a breathtaking speed. While in January 8 projects raised in total less than USD 1m, we observed since October 200 projects per month, which raised in average USD 15m(2). Only in December, the most profitable month of the short ICO history, more than USD 1,5b were raised. Five projects (FileCoin, Tezos, EOS, Bancor, Paragon) raised each USD 150m, and many projects raised millions in minutes or even seconds.
