Giovanni Sabatini, General Manager of the Italian banking association ABI, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Executive Committee of the European Banking Federation for a two-year term from January 2016. Dr Sabatini succeeds Piia-Noora Kauppi, Managing Director of the Federation of Finnish Financial Services, whose two-year mandate ended in December. His appointment was agreed at the Executive Committee meeting on 18 December in Brussels.
Dr Sabatini has been at the helm of ABI since 2009. Previously he was Director at CONSOB, the Italian Stock Exchange Authority, and CEO of Monte Titoli SpA. He has lectured in Rome at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the LUISS University.
