As part of the introduction of the EU AML Package, we previously examined the future powers of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (“AMLA”) and its impacts.(1) In the meantime, on 30 May 2024, the European Council has adopted new anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism rules. In this issue, we believe it is important to highlight some regulatory points relating to the EU Single Rulebook Regulation (AMLR) and the 6th Directive (AMLD6) which also make up this new AML Package.
