American neoliberalism, distinct from Anglo-Saxon capitalism, is rooted in the market economy and entrepreneurship. Everyone faces their destiny, left to the strength of their fists to survive where social protection is weak. The curves of supply and demand determine everything. A Calvinist essence marks this country: each person seeks salvation alone, with charity replacing the welfare state.
