The end of a senior executive role is not just a professional event. For many leaders, it marks the sudden disappearance of a structure that has shaped their identity and sense of relevance for decades. For people who have spent between twenty and thirty years operating at or near the top of organisations, this can be unfamiliar territory. Many have not written a CV in years. They have not had to explain their value proposition in a structured way. Opportunities often came through reputation, networks or search firms.
