Foreign investment in Brazil: Combining direct investment, portfolio investments (FIPS/FIIS) and Luxembourg Soparfis
Brazil recently emerged as the top destination for foreign investments in Latin America and is now the fourth worldwide. On its turn, Luxembourg ranked (Jan/12) Number One in the country list of origin of such investments. The following represents three alternative routes to invest in the Brazilian economy: Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), Portfolio Investments (PI) in private equity (FIP) and in real estate (FII).   As such, foreign investors may invest into South America´s economic wonder either:   1. Directly through Luxembourg holding company(ies) (Lux Hold Co) investing into a local holding company (BR Hold Co), the latter controlling the target company(ies) (BR Target Co).
