According to UBS's Chief Economist, Larry Hatheway*, the world economy is gradually healing. Visiting Luxembourg from UBS Investment Bank in London, Mr Hatheway shared his views during a press conference on where the global economy stands and on what to expect in this year. The upward trend signs are timid but showing in the main three economic strongholds: the United States, China as well as Europe.
In the United States, there is an overall upward trend as the economy grows at a slightly faster pace. This trend can be seen in different areas of the economy: due to a rise in employment, household consumption is showing resilience and consequently, the housing market as well as retail banking have started to pick up.
