Some might be tempted to think that the EU General Data Protection Regulation(1), which was adopted in 2016 and will apply from 25 May 2018, added only a few new features to the existing data protection framework under Directive 95/46/EC on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data.
