A variety of models have been adopted, the technology is largely mainstream, and fund managers partitioning off non-core activities to specialist service providers has become a common practice. Innovative product development, core investment functions and business development stay in-house, while commoditised processes are often farmed out. In many ways outsourcing has done what it claimed: reduced costs and improved efficiency.
