Regulatory reporting is a crucial aspect of successful implementation of European legislation. However, given the vast number of legal obligations that Member States and businesses across Europe have to comply with, it is important to ensure that the process of regulatory reporting is a smooth one. However, more often than not it is perceived as unnecessarily complex and burdensome by concerned stakeholders. Further still, it appears that the way in which reporting requirements are established and implemented varies widely across different policy areas and even within a particular policy field.
